Catholic Committee sets to improve life for parishioners

The Committee for Solidarity of Catholics in Central Highlands Lam Dong province said it would focus on improving life for local parishioners in the 2007-2012 term and calling on them to further participate in social and charitable activities.

These are part of the 10 key tasks set for the 2007-2012 period that the Committee approved at its 4th conference in Da Lat city on August 21.

A report released at the conference showed that local parishioners have actively responded to charitable activities as well as activities to curb social evils and build a cultured lifestyle.

Every year, they contribute billions of Viet Nam dong to charitable activities, including providing free medicines and medical treatment to the poor, support to natural disaster-affected people and care for orphans.

The conference, attended by 150 delegates representing more than 300,000 local parishioners, elected a 32-member Standing Board of the provincial Committee for Solidarity of Catholics.-(VNA)
